How the ransom are paid to the pirates?

Every day we are seeing the news about ships are captured by pirates for whom the shipping companies are paying ransom to the pirates. How these monies are paid? Since this is in Millions and trillions no one will take cash, but may be transfer of funds I assume, but has a doubt who is encouraging this and who receives these funds and where these amounts are deposited?
